BHP Petroleum provided funding to undertake a GIS Implementation within the Ministry of Geology and Mines. This included an User Requirements Analysis, Infrastructure Development, Institutional Development, System Development and Capacity Building and Training.

ENDIAMA contracted Spatial Dimension to undertake a user requirements analysis of their GIS needs. A GIS system was then established using ESRI products, a Mining Cadastre System and a Mineral Information System were developed, work flow procedures implemented and extensive training and support provided.

The Egyptian Survey Authority (ESA) identified the need to develop an application to assist people making requests to purchase land parcels. A system was developed using a combination of field GIS software and GPS units along with digital parcel maps and orthophotograph’s to enable officers to locate their position and to see the appropriate parcel maps and orthophotos in real time.

The technology, resources, data standards and maintenance procedures were established to facilitate the efficient integration and distributing of information.

Spatial Dimension developed an integrated land management solution for the Urban Settlements Governance and Management Programme in Somalia. The application integrates both desktop and mobile GIS systems with Quickbird satellite imagery and robust data capture, validation and integration tools for the collection and management of property data.

The Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) has contracted Spatial Dimension to implement the FlexiCadastre mineral rights management solution within its Hydrocarbons Chief Directorate.  FlexiCadastre will be used to manage petroleum licences in terms of the Petroleum Products Amendment Act, 2003 (Act 58 of 2003).

Alexkor outsourced its Mineral Resource Department, GIS Department and Marine Contractor Management to Mineral Services and Spatial Dimension. Spatial Dimension developed the Alexkor Information Management System (AIMS) to manage all information relating to the company's technical data, sub-contractor information, land and marine operations, production and environmental information. The system provides Management with a real-time 360° view of its operations.

AngloGold Ashanti contracted Spatial Dimension to undertake an environmental change detection study over some of its operational mine sites.  Using remote sensing techniques the nature and degree of change in vegetation, land cover and seepage zones over time was undertaken using time series satellite data.

The new Mining Rights Information System (MRIS) and its associated Central Contracts Register (CCR) was designed to be more user friendly than the previous system and is based on the latest technology and is linked to BHPBilliton’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The new system enhances corporate governance and creates a one-stop-shop for employees across the globe to access group contracts via the intranet. The system is accessible to all BHPBilliton offices worldwide.

The Transportation and Traffic Directorate of the City of Cape Town identified the need to develop a Traffic Intersection Management System (TIMS) to streamline their business practices. Spatial Dimension was contracted to design, develop and implement efficient field data capture routines and workflows and an integrated web-based data dissemination and management tool.

ATLAS is an advanced data & document management system designed specifically for the petroleum industry. The application provides an easy way to capture, maintain & search metadata, to find data & documents of interest. Users are able to save their searches, and build collections of regularly used documents.

The South African National Botanical Institute awarded Spatial Dimension a contract to analyse the existing biodiversity information systems within South Africa and to implement an integrated and centralised data management system. Spatial Dimension has subsequently developed SIBIS focusing on building an easy to use, web-based interface allowing authorised personnel to view, add, update, map and report on data directly from a central server running SQL Server, ArcSDE and ArcIMS. The system was developed in ASP.NET.

The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) uses a property acquisition register for land bought. This data existed in Microsoft Excel tables and had no spatial component. A requirement was identified to spatially enable the existing data to allow for more effective property. The critical project output was to distribute data, spatial and non-spatial, through a single web front-end connected to a centralised database. ESRI’s ArcIMS was chosen for the mapping component and SQL Server, in combination with ArcSDE, for the backend database.

Spatial Dimension assisted Saldanha Bay Municipality convert from a CAD to a GIS based infomation system. The project involved specific GIS training courses, application development and GIS support. A number of database design and development projects were undertaken to optimise workflows within the Council.

As part of the Tanzanian Mineral Sector Development Technical Assistance Project (MSDP), the Nordic Development Fund awarded a consortium made up of Swedish Geological, Spatial Dimension, Swede Survey and InfoBidge a contract to establish a new Mining Cadastral Information Management System (MCIMS) in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Tanzania.  Spatial Dimension's FlexiCadastre product is being used to provide real-time access to the centralised database in Dar es Salaam from the 21 Zonal and Resident Mines Offices spread throughout the county.

Spatial Dimension and Swedish Geological have been engaged by the European Development Fund to implement a new Mining Cadastre System based on Spatial Dimension's successful FlexiCadastre product.  The initial phase of this project will enable all head-office staff to have real-time access to relevant data although the system has been designed to allow staff in the regional offices to access the centralized information.

Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) identified the need to develop a system to monitor and report on status and impacts of their mining assets and affected settlements using high resolution satellite imagery. Spatial Dimension developed a system to monitor a range of issues, such as: (i) the extent and growth of existing and new tailings deposits, as well as their progressive rehabilitation; (ii) progressive erosion of tailings facilities and other assets; (iii) the possible silting up of rivers and dams; (iv) the possible loss of farming land and (v) the possible destruction of forest cover within the newly privatised mining areas.
